As a result of the BBC drama "The Secret Diaries of Miss Anne Lister", starring Maxine Peake,  and  "Revealing Anne Lister", we had of lot of interest in I know my own heart: the diaries of Anne Lister 1791-1840 edited by Helena Whitbread - it's now back in stock, and so is Jill Liddington's book Female Fortune, an engrossing book about Lister’s life and diaries. We also have stock of Presenting the Past: Anne Lister of Halifax 1791-1840 and Nature's Domain: Anne Lister and the landscape of desire, both by Jill Liddington.

Local events about Anne Lister are planned:

25 July, 2pm, Shibden Mereside: Helen Whitbread talks about "The Social Life of Anne in early 19th-century Halifax".

8 August, 2pm, Shibden Hall: Anne Lister's Shibden: guided tours around the hall and park to discover Anne's impact on the Estate.

19 August, 7-9pm: An Evening with Helena Whitbread at Halifax Town Hall. £7.50, including cheese, biscuits and wine. This is to raise funds for glaucoma laser, and neither Helena Whitbread (editor of Anne Lister's diaries) nor the Town Hall are taking a fee. We are selling tickets for this at The Book Case.
